The Benefits of Effective Insulation

Effective Insulation

Proper Spraytech Insulators indoor temperatures, reducing chilly drafts and unnecessary strain on heating and cooling systems. It also lowers energy consumption and reliance on fossil fuels, and helps reduce emissions in the air.

Generally, insulation is classified by its R-value (resistance to heat flow), with higher R-values providing greater thermal resistance. The R-value of a particular insulation is determined by its thickness and the materials it contains, with wall studs and other building components decreasing a material’s R-value. The R-value of cellulose insulation, like SANCTUARY, is significantly higher than fiberglass, because it uses recycled paper and other fibers that trap pockets of air, which provides a barrier against the transfer of heat.

Effective Insulation for a More Comfortable Home

Cellulose insulation, also known as fibrous or cellulose, is made from recycled paper products and treated with fire retardants, making it an environmentally friendly choice. It is usually blown into attics and walls using special equipment, which makes it easy to cover awkward spaces. It can be used in conjunction with fiberglass to fill gaps and cracks, but often is more effective because it’s dense, which blocks more of the transfer of heat.

Insulation works through three basic mechanisms: conduction, convection and radiation. Conduction transfers heat through dense materials, like metals. Convection transfers heat through liquids and gases, which is why lighter, warmer air rises. Radiation transfers heat through a surface, heating it by conduction and then by convection. Insulation slows the flow of all of these processes, which lowers energy costs and increases comfort.
